FUHRMANN Engineering Inc. (FEI) provided civil engineering design services on site plans for a new design center at the Urbana-Champaign campus.

The proposed building will be constructed on S. Fourth Street adjacent to Huff Hall. It will be a collection of collaborative spaces available to students to plan and create design projects. The building footprint was designed to leave ample amount of green space and provide landscaping and outdoor meeting spaces.

FEI’s role was providing civil engineering services, including site grading, storm water management, detention drainage design, LEED documentation for storm water quantity and quality, utility plans and coordination, and procuring necessary permits required for the site area. The site did not involve any additional parking areas. Best management practices for storm water runoff involved underground storage for detention and grey water reuse for the building, bio swale detention, and French drains under pervious pavements and walkways for additional storm water storage.

This $35 million project will be constructed in 2017-2018.
