FUHRMANN Engineering, Inc. (FEI) provided Site Plans for retrofitting handicap violations, including handicap ramps, striping, stall locations, and countertop heights. Work also consisted of Field Surveys of existing Family Video stores for ADA Accessibility Guideline compliance throughout the State of Illinois.

In 2003, the Illinois Attorney General investigated several Family Video stores located throughout the state of Illinois and alleged that sixty-three (63) of the stores were not in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) as stated in the Illinois Accessibility Code book. The Attorney General then provided a list of alleged violations at sixty-three (63) store locations.

In the spring of 2004, FEI of Springfield, Illinois was contracted by Family Video to design a cost effective solution to retrofit each store and provide site plans of each store.  Field investigations were conducted at every store for due diligence on existing conditions and photographs were taken to record existing conditions.

Field investigations were conducted at stores alleged to be in violation of excessive slopes.  After field investigations were complete, existing and proposed site plans were developed for construction documents. Site plans, including typical details to show both the existing alleged violations and a proposed retrofit solution, were provided in accordance with the Illinois Administrative Code for Handicap Accessibility.  In 2004-2008, construction activities took place to retrofit fifty-one (51) of these stores.
